Watching "The Little Mermaid" as a child, I was only concerned with Ariel and Prince Eric falling in love, and singing along to my favourite songs. It was unknown to me at the time that there was any relevance or comparability between "The Little Mermaid" and the Christian faith. Now, as I watch this film after completing this website and gathering my information, it is impossible for me to ignore the fact that there are Christian themes and ideas prevelant to the main focus of the film, and hopefully it will now be impossible for you to watch without noticing the similarities too. Ariel is both a strong and independent young woman who fights for what she believes in, and will do whatever necessary to get what she wants. However, although she is this strong woman, she still relies on the governance and help from her father, just like we all require some extra needed help from our parents, and our Gods. Like Ariel, we all have the ability to succumb to temptation, and if we do we hope that we can return on the path of righteousness. Ariel succumbs to temptation and eventually gains the forgiveness of her father, like we hope to gain forgiveness when we engage in a wrong doing. The film, "The Little Mermaid" explicitly showcases important Christian themes and ideas through the actions of Ariel and her friends. They show us that a happy ending is always possible.
