God, in terms of Christian thinking, is seen as being an all powerful, all knowing entity. God is the ultimate good in the world, and we all must attempt to try and follow in his footsteps of doing good things. He teaches us to avoid partaking in sins and to always do good, and hopes that we will follow his rules. King Triton, in the film "The Little Mermaid", can also be viewed as being in the same light as God. The merpeople who live in Atlantica bow down to King Triton, and view him as being an all powerful being. He holds all the power to make decisions within Atlantica, and those who live there must follow his rules. King Triton, in the film, is depicted as being Ariel's father which is similar to the belief of Christians that God is "Our Father". When sitting in church, or listening to prayers within the Christian faith, we hear God constantly being referred to as "Our Father". King Triton seen as being Ariel's father, and God as seen as being Our Father, is another similarity between the film and Christianity. God's job is to steer us all in the right direction, and to ensure that we stay away from evil. King Triton also engages in ensuring that all of his children, not just Ariel, refrain from going against his wishes and getting themselves into trouble. He uses the power at his disposal to ensure that his children follow on the path of righteousness, just as God wants us, his children, to also follow behind him on the path to righteousness. King Triton and God may use different tactics, but ultimately wish to obtain the same goal - happiness.
